Rooted in Tradition, Rolled with Purpose.
At Tora Maki, every roll is rooted in generations of tradition. Our purpose has always been simple: to honor the art of authentic Japanese sushi while sharing its spirit with the world. From hand-selected ingredients to time-honored techniques, we craft each piece with respect, precision, and heart.
In the 1930s, Hiroshi Takeda opened a small sushi stall in coastal Japan. Through war and recovery, he passed down his craft and values to his son Kenji—sushi as precision, respect, and heart.
Hiroshi and Kenji developed a bold, signature style. Locals nicknamed it Tora no Maki—“The Tiger’s Roll.” In the 1970s, Kenji brought their tradition to Tokyo, gaining loyal fans.
Tora Maki expanded overseas, bringing authentic Japanese sushi to new diners. In the ’90s, Kenji’s daughter Aiko took the lead, balancing heritage with a modern touch.
Tora Maki blends history and innovation—classic techniques with creative flair. Nearly a century later, our mission remains the same: honor the craft, serve with soul.
Our Founder
The Craftsman Behind the Name
Hiroshi Takeda founded Tora Maki in a quiet fishing town in 1930s Japan. Raised in a family that respected the sea and every ingredient it offered, he devoted himself to the art of sushi—not for fame, but to honour tradition and craft food with care.
A Legacy Passed Down
Hiroshi’s philosophy was simple: make sushi with integrity and never rush the process. He passed this mindset to his son and inspired generations to follow. Today, his legacy lives on in every roll—through precision, respect, and a deep love for the craft.
